Friendly Skies Bluesky Blocks for WordPress

Five blocks that put Bluesky posts, feeds, threads and profiles on your WordPress pages, rendered on your server and cached. The blocks need no Bluesky account, and put no Bluesky script on the page.

Friendly Skies blocks on a page: a profile card, a follow button with its follower count, a Bluesky post with a link card, a feed of posts with photos, and a thread with its replies indented.
The block inserter searched for "bluesky": WordPress's own Bluesky Embed block, and the five Friendly Skies blocks.

5 blocks, wherever a block goes

Bluesky Post, Feed, Thread, Profile Card and Follow Button are ordinary blocks. Search the inserter for "bluesky" and place them where you want them — in a post, a template part, a sidebar. Give a block a handle, or a post or thread URL, and it shows any public account, post or conversation. A thread keeps its replies indented, with a depth limit and a collapse threshold.

Rendered on your server

WordPress can already embed a single Bluesky post, and it does that with an iframe loaded from Bluesky. Friendly Skies fetches from Bluesky on your server, caches the response, and sends your reader ordinary HTML, with no Bluesky script, iframe or tracking code. Images are the one thing a reader's browser loads from Bluesky itself: avatars, banners, photos and thumbnails are shown from Bluesky's own image addresses.

Import from Bluesky, with Pro

Friendly Skies Pro connects your own Bluesky account with an app password, and imports your posts into WordPress on a schedule, from every 15 minutes to once a day, as posts or as posts of a custom post type Friendly Skies creates for them. Their hashtags can become tags or categories. Choose whether your replies and the posts you have reposted come in, or only posts with photos, video or a link card. Imported posts arrive as drafts unless you choose to publish them as they come in. Styled as a Bluesky embed, the default, an imported post stores its link and a title, and shows the post from Bluesky. In your theme's own style, its text and links are stored in your WordPress database, and its photos still load from Bluesky.
No account, nothing to connect

The blocks read Bluesky's public API, so they show any public account, post or thread without an account, an app password or a key. Import from Bluesky, in Pro, is the one feature that connects your own account.

Light, dark, or your own CSS

Every block comes in light, dark and system color schemes, and is styled with CSS custom properties your theme or your own CSS can override.

The whole Feed block, with Pro

The free Feed block shows one account's posts, in a List or Grid layout. Pro adds the Search, Custom Feed and Bluesky list sources, and the Masonry, Carousel, Highlight and Ticker layouts.
